Bible 101 is a wonderful non-threatening, non-intimidating small group or open group program. A program that accelerates or reinforces ones learning and enjoyment of knowing how to better understand and use the Bible.
At age 57, Jim Nissen’s wife Barb experienced a massive stroke while visiting their son in Phoenix Arizona. While Barb has regained the full use of her right side this Significant Emotional Experience started a new faith walk for him. Jim discovered he was a good 57 year old Lutheran person that did not know where the book of Genesis was in the Bible.
This was true. Jim knew nothing about the Bible, its story, its people or how to use it.
A short time later while visiting Dr. Schuller’s Crystal Cathedral in Anaheim, California, A wonderful 82 year young friend, knowing Jim's facilitating and speaking background, suggested he do what she had done for years. She suggested he start a “Bible 101” program. To teach and learn the Bible with others at the same time.
Jim did not know where to start until he was introduced to the book written by Dr. Max Anders, 30 Days to Understanding the Bible. Dr. Anders book immediately accelerated Jim’s and the members of his first and following Bible 101 programs. They learned the Story of the Bible together. The Chronological historical time line of events, its geography, the people, what they did and places they took place.
Jim’s first ten week small group program started with thirteen participants in May of 1999. Now 40 programs and 500 participants later Bible 101 continues.
Being a generic study of the Bible, the YMCA, Jim’s church, St. John Lutheran Church and other groups sponsor and endorse the Bible 101 program.
Jim is asked who can lead or facilitate a Bible 101 program? Anyone, a lay person as Jim is, or anybody if they will follow the simple Bible 101 leader’s process. One does not need any biblical or theological training or background. The leader who uses Dr. Anders’ book and who wants to share and have fun learning more about the story of the Bible and how to use it with others will be successful. The program DOES however have one leader prerequisite. The leader must have a yearning to get to know and become closer to the AUTHOR of the greatest book ever written…”The BIBLE”.
